The first retail shooting incident took place in 1966 at a salon on a beauty school campus in Arizona. The Active Shooter incidents have significantly increased in recent times.
A mass shooting occurred at the Azana Spa, Brookfield, Wisconsin on October 21, 2012. Three people were slain by the shooter, who later on died by suicide. On May 30, 2012, a series of shooting incidents took place which began with Racer Café, which continued when the gunman killed a woman in an attempted carjacking. The shootings were said to have started at around 11 in the morning. The perpetrator of the Seattle Café Shooting Spree later on died by suicide on the same day he committed the shootings. On January 28, 2018, a gunman killed 4 people and injured one at a gas station in Pennsylvania and on April 22, the same year, a Waffle house restaurant in Tennessee, USA witnessed a mass shooting in which four people succumbed to death. On March, 2021, at three Atlanta-area massage businesses, eight people were shot by a gunman, whereas in just a few days after this incident, In April, 4 people were killed by a gunman in a Southern California office buildings. The Walmart, El Paso, Texas witnessed the death of 22 people in the hands of a gunman. On April 15, 2021, nine people succumbed to a mass shooting at Indianapolis FedEx facility.
The retail mass shootings are still prevalent and taking place at regular intervals. Apart from the peace of the neighborhood, the Active Shooting incidents affect the business of these retail services as well.
